Written Communication: Reports and Itineraries

Reports are well-planned and impartial communication of factual information or advice.  Reports present facts accurately, clearly, concisely and logically. 

2 Types of Reports

1) Investigatory: reports which are 'one-off' and investigate situations or problems or offer solutions.

2) Routine: reports that either cover routine tasks, e.g., accident or inspection reports

How to Present Reports

  • accurately, clearly, concisely, logically


  • well-planned and well-organised 

  • benefits received from preparation and use of report should exceed its cost

  • simple language

Itineraries
An itinerary is a written record of travel arrangements. It is often prepared for an executive and will list essential information like dates, time of flights, names of hotels, and hotel reservation. An itinerary can be written in various ways.
